Kyiv’s parks department released ratings this week for 12 marked walking trails, sorting them by distance from 2 kilometres to 18 kilometres and by difficulty from flat river paths to steep forest climbs.
The ratings arrive as residents seek reliable outdoor routes during the peak summer months when daytime temperatures often exceed 28 degrees. City data shows park foot traffic rose sharply after new lighting and signage went up last autumn along several routes.
Two sites stand out in the published list. The Hydropark loop on Trukhaniv Island offers a 4.8-kilometre flat circuit rated easy, while the marked paths inside Holosiivskyi National Nature Park include a 9.3-kilometre moderate trail that climbs through pine stands and past the Lysa Hora slopes.
Beginners can start with the 2.1-kilometre paved route that begins at the entrance to the Park of Eternal Glory and follows the hilltop before descending toward the Dnipro embankment. The path stays under tree cover for most of its length and requires no special footwear.
Another beginner choice runs along the left bank of the Dnipro near the Podil district ferry landing. This 3.4-kilometre out-and-back segment stays level and passes several cafes that open at 7 a.m. for early walkers.
Intermediate hikers can tackle the 7.6-kilometre circuit inside Feofaniya Park that combines gravel paths with short wooden stair sections. The route passes the monastery ponds and finishes at the main gate on Holosiivskyi Avenue.
The most demanding option listed is the 18-kilometre traverse through the western section of Holosiivskyi National Nature Park. It gains 180 metres in elevation and crosses two streams on footbridges. The Kyiv Department of Ecology recorded 2.3 million park visits in the first half of 2025, with the longest trails seeing the largest share of repeat users.
Trail maps and current surface conditions appear on the city’s open-data portal. Walkers are advised to carry water and check the 8 a.m. temperature reading before setting out on any route longer than 6 kilometres.
